Shane Walker - Waihi (Oil Landscape)

shane_photo.jpg
Shane Walker is a local young man, born and bred in the Bay. He says “Growing up around the rugged coastline of Waihi Beach inspired me to express my love for the coastal environment through painting”.

Shane’s’ passion for art started at an early age “back in the days of nappies” he jokes. Since finishing school, he has concentrated on a fulltime career in art,   having studied with Tim Wilson, whilst gaining recognition with several art awards – the most recent being the Supreme Winner at the 2010 Waihi Awards.

In the last four years, Shane has discovered the magic of oil paint and has come a long way to perfecting his skill in using them. “I like what oils have to offer; long drying times and the blending properties of the medium mean I can achieve much more that was previously possible” he enthusiastically explains. Attention to detail is the focus when he paints in his small Waihi Beach studio.

A keen outdoors man, Shane continues to appreciate the local coastal environment which surrounds him constantly, but he is also very passionate about the mountain ranges of the South Island. “Our frequent skiing holidays to the South Island have left a lasting impression on me so I was just thrilled to be invited to   exhibit in ‘South’ at Harrisons Gallery”.
