Elliot Mason - Tauranga (Acrylic Landscape)

Born in Tauranga in 1987, Elliott’s relationship with Harrisons Gallery begun very early.   “My life has been full of art since Day One due to my families business; my grandfather founded and operated Harrison’s Gallery so I spent much of my youth viewing and gaining appreciation for fine artwork, particularly painting.”

Elliott describes a feeling of ‘moral obligation’ towards his art; “I want to do something positive for the environment, to reflect my love of nature and to try to portray an ecologically conscious message through my work. I believe that by depicting the natural world in art form we can influence the community to respect it as a living system, which we all rely on.”

Working with varying genres and domains ranging from visionary art, surrealism, abstraction, political pop through to graphic design and illustration, Elliot also credits his love of music as being a strong creative force in his life. He has also drawn on inspiration and stylistic features from local artists such as: Elizabeth Granger, Arthur Dagley, Simon Madgwick, Dave Roy, and Rodney Mills.

“When I was a student in the Waikato (Elliott has a Bachelor of Media Arts), I found many more artist models in the Hamilton community including Alistair Selliman and the Underwater Collective. Internationally, I have used Alex Grey as an artist model whose visionary depictions encourages me to give my work a deeper meaning and push my development”, Elliott adds “all of these influences have been immensely valuable to me and greatly appreciated”.
