Adults WorkshopsTerm 3 2010, Adults Workshops. ‘I Can Be Van Gogh’![]() Talulah BelleWeekend Workshop (one day)Saturday 21st August from 10am – 4.30pm $110 per student (own art supplies required- list given upon enrolment) This workshop willuse the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh as inspiration to create an artwork of your own. The examples you will draw from are Vincent’s famous chair painting or the Olive Tree Grove. Your masterpiece will be done onto stretched canvas and will use an array of inviting Australian acrylic colours by Matisse and Atelier which each painting taking you four weeks to complete. Talulah has taken much inspiration from this great master her self so there is no better tutor to take you through the processes of forming an expressionist painting in his style. By replicating a Van Gogh artwork you will find the confidence to be bold and free in your approach to painting. This workshop is a must for anyone who admires Van Gogh’s artworks and enjoys the freedom of such an expressive form of painting. ‘Total Expression – Intermediate Level’![]() Sharen WatsonSaturday 18th September from 10am – 4.30pm$110 per student (own art supplies required- list given upon enrolment) Beginners/Intermediate level This course will be taught by local legend Sharen Watson. In term 2 we offered a course with Sharon on the basic fundamentals of using several different art mediums such as; pastel, water colour, texture mediums, charcoal, acrylics, all used on paper and board. This term we are offering this course in a one day workshop and stepping it up a notch. You will work straight onto a stretched canvas using all the above products and more. Learn the techniques that professional Bay of Plenty artist and tutor Sharen Watson has developed over the course of her career as a full time artist. Learn how she uses her expressive ability to blend many different mediums in one artwork. This workshop is ideal for those that are thinking about exploring their creative side through art but aren’t sure which medium they may pursue or for those of you wanting a new challenge in your artistic path. Suitable for students that have attended Sharen’s first course. ‘The How To In Oils’- Oil Painting Workshop Intermediate LevelStuart SimsSaturday 11th September from 10am – 4pm (1 day)$100 per person (own art supplies are required- list given upon enrolment) This workshop is perfect for the hobbyist oil painter that has had some experience oil painting but now would like to step it up to the next level (suitable for students that have attended ‘Painting Possibilities for Newbie’s’ workshop). The majority of techniques covered will be based on professional artist Stuart Sim’s own highly detailed oil paintings- he will share with you all the secrets, techniques and application theories that he has learned over his extensive career as an artist & tutor. ‘The Art of Palette Knife Painting’![]() Richard Ponder (Wellington)Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th September, 10.00am & 4pm (both days)$380 (Own art supplies required– list provided on enrolment) Well known artist and gallery owner Richard Ponder will be teaching an intensive two day palette knife painting workshop– covering the joy of guttural painting. You wont be let off lightly though, there will also be much on; perceptive, composition, light, colour and Richards amazing tactile impasto textures. Improve your current palette knife painting skills or learn from scratch, functional, original, resourceful techniques. This workshop is suitable for beginners and advanced artists. You can also choose whether to use acrylic paints or oils. So don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of New Zealand's great modern artists and from a gallery owners perspective on how to sell your artworks. ‘Lets Get Abstract’![]() Finela MooreWeekend WorkshopSaturday 7th & Sunday 8th August from 10am – 4pm (both days) $200 per student (own art supplies required- list given upon enrolment) Based on the artwork of successful Tauranga artist Finela Moore you will be taught how to produce a 3D abstract mixed media artwork. You will learn how to achieve different textural effects by applying multiple demonstrations onto a stretched canvas with acrylic paints, mediums, tinted varnishes and other mixed media items such as string and paper. Finela will provide demonstrations on how to achieve each of these steps. ‘Rounding Form’![]() Durrelle GreenWeekend WorkshopSaturday 14th & Sunday 15th August $200 per person (own art supplies are required- list given upon enrolment) 10am – 4pm (both days) If you are a fan of figurative artwork and you love to do mixed media you will really enjoy this course. Durrelle will take you on an exploration of texture, mediums, acrylic paints and digital printing to guide you through constructing a figurative mixed media artwork. You will take inspiration from Wendy Arnold’s very elaborate mixed media artworks (Australian artist) as you discover how to create figurative artworks that are just as amazing. This course will focus on using a lot of the Golden range of acrylics and mediums. ‘Learning to Draw & Paint the Human Form’![]() Graham CrowDaytime WorkshopBeginners level Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th August $235 per person (own art supplies are required for second day- paints or pastels) 10am – 3pm (both days) Stage 1- Saturday: join popular tutor Graham Crow in this fresh dynamic approach to life drawing tailor made to suit the beginner seeking new challenges. Graham encourages an individual expressive style while experimenting using gesture, line and proportion as well as learning about light source and the structure of the human body. A range of traditional and contemporary techniques will be used over this workshop. Stage 2- Sunday: today will give students an opportunity to explore the application of colour to their figurative drawings. There will be a strong emphasis on creating an understanding of tone, colour and line which in turn creates the illusion of form and space on a 2D surface. Model fee included in course cost. ‘Expressive Life Drawing & Painting’Graham CrowDaytime WorksopProfessional Workshop Sunday 12th September (1 day) 10am – 4pm $135 per person Stage 1 – Drawing form a life model students will explore advanced principals and exercises of sketching the human form. Gestural intent, orientation to light source Demonstrations used to emphasise techniques used. Covering the formal properties of figure drawing in a professional studio environment. Experienced models. Easels and instruction by professional artist and tutor Graham Crow. Stage 2- This aspect will give students the opportunity for an in-depth exploration of figure painting techniques and ideas. Photographers & artists (both hobby artists & professional artists) in the South Island have been introduced to these new printing techniques and are producing innovative new works from any digital print file or digital photograph. These processes transform desktop inkjet digital printing from ‘ordinary’ to a ‘unique’ and original art form. These two day workshops are designed to take a very hands on approach to print production. You will learn techniques that you will later apply when producing your own mixed media artworks. Using a variety of substrates, Golden digital mediums and techniques, learn to print to almost any substrate that will pass through your printer and learn to make a transfer ‘skin’ to apply to any surface. Collage or layer skins or enhance with acrylic pigments for greater effect and originality.
